No One Will Service My Vehicle

Wednesday, November 3, 2004
I called Chevalier Chrysler in Aurora again today and I was able to speak to the service manager, Art. I explained the issues with my van and his immediate response was that I'd have to take it back to MacIVER Dodge for service. I explained that Bill, the service manager at MacIVER Dodge, has told me that they are unable to resolve the problem. I also explained that Charles, the manager of parts and service at Daimler Chrysler Canada has told me to find another dealership to take it to "because another dealership might be able to approach the issues from a different angle". Art's response was "We don't take on problems from other dealerships. We have enough of our own." Thank you Art... I could not have asked for a better quote.

(Art, if you're reading this... I have no problems with you or your dealership. You really sounded very genuine in your concern as I explained the issues with my van. I do understand your position, and if I were in your shoes, I would not want to service this van either.)

So it seems like there are two Daimler Chrysler dealerships who will not touch my vehicle. I can't tell you how glad I am that I purchased the extended warranty. That will give me an extended period of time to search for someone to do the repairs. Anyways, I called Charles back to inform him of the response I received from Chevalier Chrysler. He promised to call Art and to call me back to let me know how to proceed.

Other than the above delays, today has been a good day. The web site has now had over 43,000 visitors. I've been receiving tons of e-mails. Sorry if I haven't had a chance to reply to everyone yet. I've even had e-mails from supporters as far away as Utah (Hi Leah!) and Romania (Hi Alex!). Thank you to all of you who are looking to help. I will have more info out to you later this week.

After speaking with Charles, Chevalier Chrysler has now agreed to take my vehicle in for service. I have explained the issues to Art, the service manager at Chevalier, and he does not seem too confident that they will be able to make repairs. He says that I "have a ghost in my vehicle" and that they are not going to be able to resolve that. But, they will take it in for a day, take a look at it, and see what they can do. I'm not too confident, but I'll play along for now. The soonest they can get me in (because Art wants to be there personally) is Monday, November 15.

We experienced the problem with our heater again today. While we were driving, it decided to turn on. We turned it off, and about three seconds later it came back on. We had to turn it off two more times before it decided to stay off. We also had the rear left interior light turn on while driving.

I was outside this evening putting garbage in our garage. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a small flash of light inside the van. I looked up and our rear left interior light was on. It had turned itself on while the vehicle was parked in the driveway. Very nice!

When we went out to the van this morning to drive our kids to school, the rear left interior light was on. It probably decided to turn itself on sometime in the middle of the night. The van still started though. I can't wait until the middle of winter, when our light has been on all night, and we're stuck with a dead battery in the morning.

Driving to school was fun. We had the van running in our driveway for 25 minutes and the front window was still not defrosted properly. And then, part way to school, once the van was all warmed up and the heater was off, it decided to turn itself back on again.

I spent some more time today spreading the word about this web site and investigating different actions that I can take to get Daimler Chrysler Canada to resolve my issues. I talked to a number of very helpful people. I want to mention one specific organization here though, because they went out of their way in reviewing my issues and providing advice and direction. That company is Car Help Canada. I don't know how many e-mails I exchanged with Phil. He was extremely helpful and very thorough. Thank you Car Help Canada!

We are continuing to experience the same problems with our heater. Our engine is still running like a tank. Our interior lights seem to be turning on more frequently than they used to. Lots of fun! I love my Dodge!

Some good news though... As of 8pm tonight, we have surpassed 90,000 visitors to this web site. That is amazing! Thank you to everyone who has helped to pass this along. Keep telling everyone you know. My goal is to have over 250,000 visitors by the end of November! That will be 250,000 people that have read how Daimler Chrysler Canada and MacIVER Dodge treat their customers.
