Ongoing Problems, and My Visit to the Autoshow
Wednesday, February 16, 2005
The noise from the left sliding door is REALLY getting annoying. We have been
on a couple of long trips lately and have tried putting in a DVD for our boys
to watch. However, the wind and road noise from the left sliding door is so
loud that my oldest son (who sits on the left side) is unable to hear the movie
unless it is turned to almost maximum volume. Maximum volume is way too loud
for the rest of the occupants in the vehicle, so our DVD player is pretty much
unusable - unless we're parked.

Several weeks back I had sent e-mails to Tom Lasorda (President of Daimler
Chrysler North America) and Mark Norman (President of Daimler Chysler Canada).
Today I received a letter in the mail in response to my e-mails. The letter is
available for viewing here.
My favourite line in the whole letter is "Your website statements and opinions
have preempted the normal evolution of your customer service file." Remember
that my case was closed and I was being ignored at the point that I launced
this web site. Ignoring customers and hoping that they will give up and go away
is Daimler Chrysler's "normal evolution of customer service files". You better
believe that this web site has preempted that!
I also really appreciate how Mr. Kiritsis does not leave a phone number to
contact him at. Another standard part of the Daimler Chrysler customer service
experience. Luckily I have the phone sheet that I obtained from the front
bulletin board at the Daimler Chrysler Mississauga office. It has all the phone
numbers I need.

My brother and I paid a visit to the
Canadian International Autoshow this afternoon. We made up some
t-shirts that advertise this site - www.DoNotBuyDodge.ca (photos coming soon) -
and wore them around the show. We had several people stop us and "congratulate"
us on our efforts. I was again surprised at the number of people who have also
had poor experiences with Daimler Chrysler.
We initially spent about 20 minutes in the Daimler Chrysler booth - just enough
time to make them start worrying. We talked to a lot of people who were there
to evaluate a vehicle that they were interested in purchasing. After some
discussions with us, they are definitely going to think twice about purchasing
from Daimler Chrysler. Then, we wandered off and explored several of the other
booths in the Rogers Centre. Even in the other booths, we had a lot of great
feedback from people. Several other sales reps asked us for business cards and
many people stopped us to tell us their horror stories with Daimler Chrysler.
We finally made our way back to the Daimler Chrysler booth. We were able to
spend another hour in there making our way through the people and spreading our
story. At that point, we were approached by security guards and asked to leave
the premises. We were expecting this to happen at some point and we were
actually surprised that it took so long. All in all, it was a very effective
outing. We were able to spread the word to several more potential Daimler
Chrysler customers. (I've received over 150 e-mails that can be directly
connected to the Autoshow.) And, I've shown to Daimler Chrylser that I am not
going to allow them to follow the "normal evolution of my customer service
file".

In less than 4 months, we have now had over 950,000 visitors to this web site.
We're approaching the 1,000,000 mark. Now, I know that several of these people
may just be visiting my site, taking a quick look, and moving on with their
lives. However, based on the feedback that I've been receiving, this site has
really impacted several people. Here is a breakdown of some of the responses
that I have received.
-
6,312 - # of e-mails received to date (only 5 have been negative)
-
782 - # of people indicating that they will never purchase another Daimler
Chrysler vehicle
-
1,129 - # of people on my regular mailing list
-
941 - # of people with their own unresolved issues with Daimler Chrysler
vehicles
