The First Major Problem
Saturday, November 29, 2003
We were shopping at Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket. When we returned to our
vehicle, there was water dripping in via the center console (on the roof) and
by the front passenger roof handle. We immediately drove the vehicle to MacIVER
Dodge - which happened to be right across the street.
The water coming into the vehicle was definitely a lot more than just
condensation. It was a steady stream (although a small stream) of water.
Everytime I turned the corner or slowed down, the water leaking in would
temporarily increase. By the time we arrived at MacIVER Dodge, the leaking had
stopped. All that was left were 2 boxes of wet kleenex that we had used to
catch the water.
We brought the leak and the ongoing defrost issue to the attention of MacIVER
Dodge. We also made them aware of a second row cupholder that had never really
worked properly. They scheduled a service appointment for us on Dec 2.

We dropped our van off for service and we were provided with a loaner vehicle.
The loaner vehicle was an old van that mechanics had been using to pick up
parts. It had grease all over the steering wheel and the driver's seat. Upon
complaining (which I don't think was uncalled for), we were "upgraded" to a
clean loaner vehicle. Why would a dealership even think about giving a customer
a vehicle that is covered with grease?
Anyways, MacIVER Dodge tested for a water leak in the roof and could not find
one. The front defrost was also checked out and no fault was found. We were
told that the ventilation system was pulled apart to look for blockages and
that they didn't find any. Then we were told that the front window taking 20+
minutes to defrost is normal. Huh? If it's normal, why even pull apart the
ventilation system then?
As for the cupholder, they forgot to order the part.
The vehicle was returned the next day. We were scheduled in on Dec 5 to come
back and have the cupholder repaired.

My wife brought our van into the dealership (as scheduled) to have the
cupholder repaired. They checked out the van and realized that they did not
have the correct part. They promised to order the proper part and to call us
when it arrived. (Looking back, I guess this was a warning sign of things to
come.)

We were called and told that the part for our cupholder was in. My wife brought
the van into service. The wrong part had been ordered. Again, we were told that
the correct part would be ordered and we would be called when it was in.
How does this happen? I can understand the first time, when they forgot to order
the part. Maybe (if I try to pretend that I'm incompetent) I can understand the
second time, when they ordered the incorrect part. But the third time!??!!?
Come on! Is the first time they've ever ordered a part?!?!! Is a cupholder such
a new feature that they are not familiar with it yet?!?!!

We're still experiencing major problems with our front defrost. Regardless of
what they say, 20+ minutes to defrost the front window is not normal. I've
never seen anyone wait that long. We've also noticed some more water leaking
into the vehicle. Yesterday afternoon there was some evidence that water had
leaked in - although we didn't actually witness it. This afternoon we saw more
water dripping in via the same two spots as on Nov 29.

We had arranged to drop our van off this evening so that the leak and defrost
issues could be checked out again tomorrow. A loaner vehicle was to be ready
for us to drive home. I arrived at the dealership and obtained the keys for the
loaner van from the receptionist. I needed to move the child seats from our van
into the loaner van. I could not find any hooks to connect the child seats to
in the middle row. I popped the liftgate and thought that I would take a look
at the rear row of seating. I leaned on the rear seat as I bent down to check
for latches. The rear seat lifted completely out of the floor. I was a little
shocked, but tried to position it back into place to fasten it. However, the
fasteners were broken!!! MacIVER Dodge has given me a loaner vehicle to put my
family in where the back seat does not fasten into the floor!!! What if I had
buckled my children in there and had to make a sudden stop?!?!? Are they
absolutely freakin' stupid!?!?! How is it possible that a vehicle with this
type of problem is being used as a loaner vehicle? I march back into the
receptionist, take my keys back, and leave!!!
